& Ives copyrighted 1880.
The bottom left of the lithograph has
"Hush! I feel Him!".
The right side has "Golly! You Got Him!"
The center reads "COPYRIGHT 1880, BY
CURRIER & IVES, NEW YORK"

The Encyclopedia of Black
Collectables says Currier and Ives was a well-known 19th century
printmaker. They painted quite a few black subjects.
Nathaniel Currier perfected hand-coloring black and white stone
lithographs and started his print business in 1852. They published
many political and humorous prints that they "believed to be true".
